PHARAOH HOUND - breed like no other

Pharaoh Hounds are elegant, intelligent, and athletic dogs, known for their graceful appearance and joyful personality. They are highly loyal and affectionate with their families, forming strong bonds with both adults and children. Their intelligence makes them quick learners, while their energy and agility make them excellent companions for active lifestyles. Pharaoh Hounds are also healthy and hardy, with a natural resilience that requires minimal grooming. With their playful spirit and loving nature, they make both devoted family pets and impressive show dogs.

However, potential owners should know that Pharaoh Hounds are very energetic and can be quite vocal. They do not have an undercoat, so they are not suited to living outdoors in cold climates. On the positive side, this makes them excellent indoor companions, and they shed very little, keeping your home cleaner. With the right care and attention, Pharaoh Hounds are loving, playful, and devoted family dogs.

  • Intelligent and Quick Learners: Pharaoh Hounds are highly intelligent and curious. They pick up commands quickly and enjoy mental challenges, making training rewarding when done with patience and consistency.

  • Energetic and Playful: These dogs are full of energy and love to run, jump, and play. Daily exercise is essential to keep them happy and healthy.

  • Affectionate and Loyal: Pharaoh Hounds form strong bonds with their families and are especially gentle and loving with children. They thrive on companionship and do not like being left alone for long periods.

  • Alert and Vocal: Pharaoh Hounds can be quite vocal and alert, making them natural watchdogs. They will let you know if something unusual is happening.

  • Elegant and Agile: With a sleek, muscular build and graceful movements, Pharaoh Hounds are striking in appearance. They are excellent in agility and canine sports.

  • Low Grooming Needs: With their short coat and no undercoat, they require minimal grooming and shed very little.

  • Indoor Companions: While they are active and athletic, Pharaoh Hounds are sensitive to cold due to the lack of an undercoat, making them best suited as indoor pets in cooler climates.

  • Independent but Social: They can be independent thinkers, sometimes stubborn, but with proper socialization, they are friendly and sociable with other pets.

History of the Pharaoh Hound

The Pharaoh Hound is an ancient breed, believed to have originated over 4,000 years ago in the Mediterranean, particularly in Malta. Known locally as the “Kelb tal-Fenek” (Rabbit Dog), they were traditionally used for hunting rabbits and small game. Their elegant, athletic build and keen sense of sight made them exceptional hunters.

Pharaoh Hounds are considered one of the oldest domesticated dog breeds, with a lineage that closely resembles the dogs depicted in ancient Egyptian art. Despite their long history, the breed nearly vanished in the 20th century, making dedicated breeders essential to preserving their unique characteristics.

Today, Pharaoh Hounds are celebrated for their grace, intelligence, and affectionate nature, remaining true to their hunting roots while also thriving as loyal family companions.

ABOUT KELT STORM KENNEL

At Kelt Storm Kennel, our story began in 2010, when founder Ivan Brodarac welcomed both Weimaraners and Pharaoh Hounds into his life. Over time, the elegance, history, and spirit of the Pharaoh Hound captured his heart completely, shaping the future of our kennel.

What started as a passion became a mission: to honor this ancient breed, celebrate its beauty, and ensure it never fades into history. Along the way, our dogs have proudly stood on podiums and earned awards across Europe — but for us, the true reward is seeing them healthy, happy, and loved.

We believe quality always comes before quantity. That’s why we have only a few carefully planned litters, giving each dog the care, attention, and family life they deserve. Because here, our dogs are never just champions — they are family.
